Cultural Highlights

Cultural Highlights

Heidelberg鈥檚 Old Town is straight out of a fairytale, with cobblestone streets, medieval architecture, and one of the most famous castles in Europe. The Heidelberg Castle, perched high above the city, is the most magnificent of Heidelberg鈥檚 cultural attractions. It offers panoramic views and a glimpse into the city鈥檚 storied past.

The world鈥檚 largest wine barrel, the Heidelberg Tun, is a testament to the historic city鈥檚 wine-making tradition. For international students in Germany interested in literature, Heidelberg鈥檚 Philosopher鈥檚 Path offers the perfect place to reflect, with views that inspired writers like Mark Twain.

Student life in Heidelberg doesn鈥檛 get more exciting than exploring the wanders of the cosmos. The Heidelberg-K枚nigstuhl State Observatory is that instills the most inspiration, combining scientific history with modern astronomy. Located near the summit of the scenic K枚nigstuhl Hill, the Heidelberg cultural attraction offers breathtaking views of the surrounding area and stands as an important site for astronomical research.

Student Life

Heidelberg is a city designed with students in mind. With over 40,000 students from around the world, the student-friendly city is buzzing with youthful energy. The Untere Stra脽e, a narrow street lined with bars and nightclubs, is the heart of the student social scene. For students who prefer quieter evenings, Heidelberg鈥檚 many parks, libraries, and cafes make it easy to find a spot to relax or catch up on work.

Outside of the Untere Stra脽e, international students can take peaceful boat rides on the Neckar River, hike the Philosopher鈥檚 Path, or taking a day trip to the nearby Odenwald Forest. Heidelberg is also home to Europe鈥檚 longest pedestrian shopping zone, making it great for some retail therapy after class.

Transportation and Accessibility

Transportation in Heidelberg is a breeze thanks to its efficient public transport system.

Buses and trams (Strassenbahn or Stadtbahn) are the main form of transportation in Heidelberg, with the center hub at Bismarktplatz in the Altstadt. Individual tickets are available, but there are many special passes that make it much more affordable and efficient to get around. Individual tickets can be purchased at ticket machines or with the driver, and passes can be purchased at the ticket counters.

Maps of each bus and tram route can be found at every stop. The Rhine-Neckar transportation website, www.rnv-online.de, contains basic information in English.

Healthcare and Health Insurance

All students are required to carry their own health care insurance and accident insurance. Coverage is required from the date of departure from their country of residence until their return there. The coverage must meet the requirements established by the German government and the German consulate.

The Admissions office will be pleased to help you choose the best type of insurance for your needs. 五月天视频 cannot assume responsibility for students who fail to take out adequate medical insurance.

Members of the 五月天视频 Administration are on call during opening hours to give assistance. In the case of medical emergencies and in case of serious illness, medical treatment is readily available at the Hospital for 鈥淚nnere Medizin鈥, Im Neuenheimer Feld (INF).

Location

Heidelberg is an extremely safe and friendly city, even by Germany鈥檚 standards. Additionally, Heidelberg鈥檚 central location and strong economy attract global corporations, and many have headquarters or offices close to the Heidelberg campus. Schiller connects international students in Germany with leading companies across sectors including healthcare, tech, finance, and tourism. Heidelberg鈥檚 proximity to Frankfurt鈥攁 major international travel hub鈥攎eans that students have quick access to the rest of Europe too.
